Dr. Game, your local Johns Island dentist, and his team are here to help you stay calm in the dentist's chair. At Stono Dental Care, understand that dental anxiety is one of the main reasons people avoid or postpone a trip to the dentist's office. To accommodate the needs of each individual patient, we offer laughing gas, oral conscious sedation and IV sedation. Dr. Game will always work with you to determine the best, safest sedation plan for your needs!
Sedation Dentistry for Oral Surgeries
At Stono Dental Care, we understand dental procedures can make patients feel anxious, nervous, or uncomfortable. To make your experience as stress-free possible, we offer sedation dentistry for those who experience dental anxiety or have special healthcare needs.
Laughing gas is a sweet-smelling substance that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through the nose to provide a calming sense of relaxation. With laughing gas, patients will remain conscious to be able to communicate with Dr. Game and answer any necessary questions throughout treatment. After the laughing gas is removed, you will feel back to normal within minutes following your procedure, allowing you to go about your day!
Oral Conscious Sedation
Because it is stronger than laughing gas, oral conscious sedation is recommended for patients with more severe dental anxiety. After your consultation, Dr. Game can prescribe a pill to be taken an hour prior to your appointment, so that its effects will initiate by the time you arrive in the dentist's chair!
Oral conscious sedation will keep you calm and conscious for your treatment, allowing you to communicate with Dr. Game. The calming sedation effects take 2-3 hours to subside, so patients opting for this method of sedation will need to arrange transportation home after treatment.
Seeking oral surgery near Johns Island, West Ashley, Hollywood, Rantowles, and Charleston, SC? Dr. Game and his professional team have the necessary expertise to provide patients of all ages with a comprehensive selection of oral surgeries — plus sedation options to keep treatment comfortable and calm for every patient.
Also known as sleep dentistry, our team can offer intravenous (IV) sedation to patients who experience more severe dental anxiety or who are scheduled for an oral surgery or longer treatment. IV sedation involves anti-anxiety medication directly administered into the veins to promote a feeling of calm and relaxation. Most patients who select IV sedation can also expect to experience temporary memory loss.
Prior to your treatment, Dr. Game will design a custom treatment plan tailored to your needs.
